The only solution is to provide the users the ability to configure whether they want be be notified audibly or just via mobile / email notifications. In our current solution, we decided to err on the side of caution and used the siren as part of our user notification for fire alarms. Either way we go here, I can see us taking "lumps" from our customers who wanted it the other way. Or if you are outside in the yard without your cell phone, without the audible siren, you might not know that your house is on fire. If you are sleeping when the fire alarm goes off, it seems like you would want as much sound as possible to make sure everyone gets up and gets out of the house to safety. This is an interesting "darned if you do / darned if you don't" scenario. During the false alarm, it was just another annoying sound / system that you had to turn off. It is more of a pulsing sound with a break and then another pulse, not the constant ringing of our alarm siren. In our current gateway, the siren for Smoke and Water alarms is already a different tone / pulse than the other Burglar alarms. Thanks for the feedback / feature request. Or am I alone in my thinking, and the extra siren is somehow a benefit? I contacted abode about turning off the abode siren for smoke or CO detection events, and was told the only way to do it would be to silence the alarm, which would mean no audible alarm during intrusion, burglary, etc, which is not st all what I want.ĭoes anyone else have these devices paired with your abode system? Do you agree that the ability to not have the siren go off during a possible fire is a setting that should be added to the system? Maybe if more of us contact abode, we could get this change added. If it goes off during an actual fire, it will be even worse! All it will contribute to the situation is increased panic and anxiety while trying to get the family out safely. it's all too much!Īs I was thinking about it afterwards, the abode siren going off for a false alarm is very annoying. After answering the call, giving my pin, letting them know it was a false alarm. I was now trying to fan the steam away from the smoke detector, run downstairs to my abode keypad to disarm the system, and find my phone as the monitoring service was calling me. It is loud! Great, since that is its purpose, to alert you to a problem. Steam from the shower set off one of the detectors. I thought I was all set until the following night when we had our first false alarm. I recently purchased two of the FirstAlert Smoke/CO detectors, and adding them to the Abode system was quick and easy. Usernames are OK.ĭo not spam your blog or website.
